Tacos for “Gringos”

This basic taco recipe is not too spicy and is made with flour tortillas which we prefer.  The ground beef is typical but ground chicken could be substituted.  Corn tortillas could also be substituted for the flour tortillas.

1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon rosemary
¼ teaspoon ground cumin
¼ teaspoon ground pepper
1 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons taco sauce
2 teaspoon Worcestershire
~ 10 flour tortillas OR corn tortillas
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 cups shredded lettuce
2 tomatoes coarsely chopped

Additional options: sour cream, extra taco sauce, sliced avocado

Cook ground meat in a frying pan over medium heat until browned and crumbly. Add onion and sauté until translucent. Stir in chili powder, oregano, paprika, rosemary, cumin, pepper, salt, taco sauce, and Worcestershire. Simmer uncovered and stir often until heated through. Wrap the flour tortillas in paper towel and heat in the microwave for about 30 seconds. (If using corn tortilla, fry them till crisp.)

Fill each tortilla with 2 – 3 tablespoons of the beef mixture. Pass the cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and avocado at the table. Add additional taco sauce if desired

~ 4-6 servings
