Cabbage and Apple Sauté with Sausage

This dish is healthy and easy to prepare. With the addition of the sausage, it is a meal itself. The bacon can be omitted if desired.

3 slices bacon, diced (optional, add 1 tablespoon olive oil if omit)
1 large yellow onion, peeled and sliced
1 Hillshire Farm sausage of your choice (or other preferred sausage), sliced into 1/2” pieces
1 head of cabbage, cored and sliced
2 – 3 cooking apples, cored and sliced
½ teaspoon whole caraway seeds
½ cup dry white wine
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Sauté the bacon in a large pot such as a Dutch oven until the bacon is translucent. Add the onions and sauté until they begin to brown. Add the sausage and stir together. Add the remaining ingredients and cook, covered. Stir often until all is tender.

Serves 6 to 8
