Oatmeal Smoothie “Pumped Up”

This smoothie is very versatile. You can add whatever fruit or combination of fruit that you want. The additional supplements are suggestions and additional ones are easily added.

1 cup quick-cooking oatmeal (I like McCann’s Quick cooking rolled oats)
2 cups milk of your choice (low fat, rice milk, almond milk etc.)
2 cups sliced berries of choice (use fresh if possible or frozen if unavailable)
1 cup nonfat yogurt (or low fat if your prefer)
1 teaspoon honey
½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon five spice powder (or use a blend of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves (Penseys Spices carries a Chinese Five-Spice Powder that is lovely)
1 – 2 Tablespoons protein powder
1 Tablespoon ground flax seed
½ cup kale (optional)

Put oatmeal in a blender and blend on high for about 20 – 30 seconds. Add milk to blender and mix again. Add fruit, yogurt, honey, vanilla, spices, protein powder, flax seed, and kale. Blend on high until smooth.

Place in a container with a pour spout and refrigerate overnight. Pour into a glass in the morning and drink as you get ready for the day.
