This is a favorite from my childhood and teenage years.
1 package (13 ¾ oz) graham cracker crumbs
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
1 c. seedless raisins (optional)
2/3 cup shortening
2 c. sugar
2/3 cup milk
Combine graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, walnuts and raisins in a bowl. Add shortening and sugar to a mixer bowl and mix until creamy. Add eggs one at a time and mix. Add milk and mix. Add bowl of dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
Pour cake batter to a buttered 13″ x 9″ baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 50 minutes until just done.
